The 2017 Rules of Racing have been approved and released (and are available for download from the Forms page), following the agreed changes voted on at the AGM. A summary of the significant changes that may impact you is below:
All new Juniors/Rookies to be assessed, must notify a track official before entering the track or they will NOT be signed off at the end of the Test & Tune. See rule 5.3.3
Racesuits are now MANDATORY for all Race Meets. Racesuits, cotton overalls (no buttons or press studs) or long sleeve shirts/pants are acceptable for Test & Tunes only. NO nylon or highly flammable materials allowed. NO hoodies, motorbike pants/shirts, tracksuits, disposable overalls or loose clothing allowed. See rule 7.10, 18.1, 18.5, 18.6
Modified engine capacity increased from 410cc to 440cc for single engine or 220cc per twin engine. See rule 10, 10.1, 16
Rear safety bar must have upper rail that is standard fitment and a lower bar fitted in a suitable location below the centreline of the axle. See rule 21.1.7
No items are to be placed behind the driver whilst they are in the kart. i.e Pillows behind the drivers back to reach the pedals. See rule 26.4
Rookies and Juniors must be present at Scrutineering with a parent or guardian. They shall be seated in their kart to check for correct fitment of seat and operation of brake pedal. This is applicable at both Race Meets and Test & Tunes. See rule 26.7
Grid position changes – Grid positions for final round of racing at each race meet will no longer be calculated on championship points, but instead final round grid positions will be via random computer draw, as per the first round of each race meet. See rule 27.4.2
Grid position changes – DNF no longer start from pole position in the next round, instead anyone who has recorded a DNF will start from rear of grid but in front of “new” rear of field competitors. See rule 27.4.3
If a kart does not register in the timing system due to a transponder not being the correct one, not being mounted or mounted incorrectly (see rule 27.5.2 for correct mounting requirements), lap numbers and or times may not be counted for that race (DNF). The decision to count these missed laps/crossings will be made by consultation between the time keeper and track marshal for the race meeting. See rule 27.5.6
Please note this is not an exhaustive list of the rule changes, but other voted in changes were predominantly cosmetic, and do not have significant impact on the way the club runs. We ask that you all take the time to read the 2017 Rules, as it is a condition of your membership that you are required to sign your acknowledgement that you have read and understand the Rules of Racing.
If you have any questions about the rule changes, please see one of the Executive or Track Committee Members.
